Chief Rick Simmons called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. in the Eagles Nest Fire Hall. The following persons were in attendance: Burns, Floyd, Humay, Junek, Mattson, T., Reichensperger, Rich, Simmons, Stellmach, and Sutherland.
Minutes: Stellmach moved to approve the minutes of the May 25, 2006 meeting, Second by Sutherland. Carried.
Old Business: .
1. E-6 – All of the decals have been applied. Chief is attempting to repair the part of the foam unit that was damaged by freezing. If that fails we will have to purchase a new part for about $1,500.
2. NIMS IS 700 – It was not a good class. Chief felt it was of no value to the department. Chief and Asst. Chief to take a NIMS IS 700 Class at Vermilion Community College in on July 12 th .
New Business:
Parking Lot Training Critique – Should treat as if at real fire. If equipment fails to operate, keep in contact with scene commander by radio for further instructions.
Driving and Response – Always obey all speed limits to and from a page-out. Always report to the Hall first and take equipment. Always call to Midway and report actions (en-route, on-scene, leaving scene, back in svc.)
Tender Pump – Now functions properly and It is back in service. Broken hose is replaced.
Fireman's Picnic – To be held July 22 at Noon at the Chief's property on Four Mile Lake. Bring a dish to pass and your favorite beverage.
Benefit for Ballard Turnbull – Chief noted how dedicated Ballard Turnbull had been to the community and urged members to attend the benefit for Ballard to be held this Friday evening, June 30 th , at the Tower Civic Center.
Spruce Bud Worm – There is evidence of spruce bud worm damage near Four Mile Lake and back towards Tower. If there is an infestation of the bud worm, it will kill many Balsam Fir, Black and White Spruce trees over the next two years leading to increased fuel loading in the forest and a corresponding increase in fire danger.
Fire Call Report – False alarm on Trygg Road May 30, 2006. Chief and Asst. Chief will develop a draft policy to present to the Board of Supervisors regarding page-outs to false alarms and to illegal fires.
